We all love videos because we can consume them, when and where we want, but we dislike training, especially when they are long, one-sided and bombarded with repetitive information and poor presentation skills. Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) was born when people moved away from classroom training and went online.

What is Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT)?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is certainly worth millions of them! Studies indicates that students retain 50% of the content they hear and see in the form of a video versus only 10% of what they read. The enormous success of various video training programs indicates that most learners prefer video over text.

In VILT, training is conducted by a trainer using an online tool, which allows two-way communication between the trainer and the learner. Information is shared through video, documents, and written notes with the learners in real-time.

Instructor and learners are in separate locations, reaching widely dispersed learners efficiently and cost-effectively. Virtual instruction environments are designed to simulate the traditional classroom or learning experience. Participants can connect with the content and interact with both the instructor and other classmates.

Within business, VILT is principally driven by the need to effectively train a growing and more dispersed population at a controllable cost. Its use enables delivery of valuable learning experiences for employees, customers and partners while avoiding travel and lodging costs, and valuable time spent away from the job.
